Narcissus's mutations?

Postby Lurk4Eva » Tue Jul 23, 2013 3:17 pm

Several versions ago, whenever you were mutating a beast, there was a chance that Narcissus would go a bit farther and add an extra upgrade to your minion. If you were really lucky, you could get a second mutation applied from a second tier. I haven't seen any in a while, and I've done a lot of experimentation. (I think I've replaced my entire harem three times, at least.)

Is this feature still in the game? If it isn't, could you post a list of the mutations and their descriptions, jackoekaki? If it's not too much trouble, of course. I'm just wanting to satisfy my curiosity.

It should still be in there. It's a chance per turn though, so once you're upgrading beasts one per turn, it'll show up much less frequently.

okay, I'll keep looking.

One last question: Are these special mutations persistent through merging? I would assume so, but I'd rather hear it from the author's mouth.

Edit: Actually, One more 'one last' question. Could I still get the list of mutations and descriptions, if only by PM? Admittedly, that might be a little much to ask, since a lot of your game is about exploration, but the sheer amount of grinding I've done, without any sign of bonus mutations, mind you, makes this a task Sisyphean in scope at first blush.

They should persist through merging unless both partners have mutations from the same tier (e.g. prominent veins vs. chitinous plates). In that case only one is kept.

I want to avoid giving anything away, because the game's too light on mystery as it is. I will say that there's no special surprise unlocked by the bonus mutations. They're cosmetic. For future releases I'll put some thought into how I can maintain the same rate of incidence as the player's research rate grows.

Here's an idea: simply multiply the base chance by a value based on a fraction of the player's research capacity. This way, with a high research score, there will be a high chance for the one day most upgrades will take, and makes sense even if the player an an unreasonably high score. With that much sorcererous power devoted to the art of fleshcrafting, I'm sure the deity of that art would smile on the group leveraging that power, yes?

I agree that there should be a way to increase the chances of this happening at the post end game.
